Join SURJ-DC from the comfort of your home for a fun virtual event to benefit Empower DC, an organization of visionary housing activists who are fighting against displacement and gentrification in the District. The event will explore D.C.'s history & legacy of organizing for housing justice.
Empower DC’s work has never been more important. The city’s public housing—home to thousands of low-income seniors, people with disabilities and families with young children—has been neglected for far too long. Now, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, too many people are being forced to shelter in unsafe conditions that threaten their health. Meanwhile, D.C. is facing an eviction crisis with tenants unable to pay their rent due to years of rampant rent hikes. Empower DC is fighting for a future where everyone in D.C. has access to the safe, stable housing they deserve.
On October 24, hear stories from the city’s housing activists, enjoy music and entertainment and get a powerful dose of energy and inspiration.
This event will be held on Zoom (link to come after ticket purchase). ASL and Spanish language interpretation will be available.
